Westward Ho! Telling the Story of Bozeman with Digital Storytelling

Digital storytelling may use new technology, but at its heart is the age-old tradition of storytelling.  Third grade students will explore historical journals of westward expansion, and use modern technology to update and share tales of Bozeman’s historical characters.  Using digital media to tell stories hones 21st century literacy skills while giving students new tools to create and communicate orally, with the written word and with mixed digital media all at once.  This project will not only build these skills specifically in our history studies of westward expansion, but will enhance communication skills and confidence for students that will carry over to other school subjects, as well as their social-emotional development overall.
