Annual Book Giveaway

We are proud to give a book to every first grader, first-grade teacher, and librarian at the beginning of each school year. This book is a gift from the Foundation’s Link to Literacy Program. Along with the book, students and families receive information about the important role that parents play in the early literacy process, and suggestions for reading out loud to their children.

Studies show that early reading has a major impact on a student’s understanding, learning, and future success. Reading is a major focus of our Foundation, as it is a critical element in educational development.

The 2021-2022 featured book is Whoosh! by Chris Barton.

The benefits of reading are vast – from improved writing skills to vocabulary development, from mental stimulation to stress reduction.

While our students take a break from school during the summer months, we don’t want a hiatus from reading. Studies show that summer reading loss is significant in grades K-2, but children who live close to a library tend to read more books during the summer.

We are proud to partner with the Bozeman School District on a new initiative targeting our earliest learners. Bozeman Reads will work with parents, child care providers, and other community members to promote early literacy skills in children ages 1 to 4 years. This exciting new program has been generously sponsored by Langlas & Associates, Noon Rotary Club, and Wendy’s.
